George has an interesting story on lock bumping over at Sleepless in Midland. I live in a relatively safe neighborhood, you know. A neighborhood where, after a break-in, little old ladies get tied up and lose their car – but that’s a rare occasion. It's only happened once, this year.
You know, relatively safe is just…two words. So, read the article…it will be worth your time. While you're doing that, I’ll be calling the locksmith.

Public service site about lock bumping!

Considering one of your primary interests, I sure wouldn't want to be the misguided soul who comes into your house uninvited.
Janie, that was your neighbor? I can't even imagine what a shock that must have been to the neighborhood.
The MPD is supposed to have a meeting with some Midland residents on 8/28/07, so maybe that incident is what it's about.
Correction - I believe that MPD/residents meeting is in a different neighborhood and concerns a different issue.
Lock bumping becomes even more of an issue when you try to claim losses on your insurance because there is no sign of forced entry and insurance providers can assume the door was left unlocked. This happened to my friend. High-security, anti-bump locks are the best solution to the lock bumping problem.
