Facebook and Reality - Mine, That Is...

Facebook was created by a college student.

I read a report the other day that said the age group 26-44 far surpassed the 18-25 age group. That makes sense - the kid that created it has aged a bit, and the kids that grew up on Facebook have gotten a little older.

The report said that Facebook is experiencing tremendous growth among users in the age group 35-65, with the fastest growing portion of that being women, 55 years and older. I am not even gonna touch that.

Yes, I’ve recently joined FB myself. One of the things I love is being a bigger part of my nephews' lives and popping remarks back and forth with them. It’s been cool to catch up with some of my friends from high school and those from the various and sundry walks of my life. I don’t accept friend requests or suggestions from those I really don't know. And it's really sweet when your sons’ friends want you to be their friend. I like watching them go through life, and you can do that with FB. As to all the games and stuff like that, I just don't go there. I don't have time. I don’t play Farm, because everyone I know that does gets hooked and I never hear from them again. (Don't be hatin'!) I don't join the causes...though they're worthy, it's all I can do to FB the little bit I do. And I'm not sure joining causes on Facebook really helps the causes, huh? I don't do the bling - I don't in real life, so why should I in the virtual world? I have participated in the "Relative" thing, but now I'm getting relative requests from people that make me wonder just how many families I have that my parents didn't tell me about. Like...does my family tree really fork?

In another completely unrelated (yet unsubstantiated) report, I read that 40-something is the new 18.

we found it difficult to prevent cross-pollination among the distinct relationship circles in our life. we gave up and quit FB altogether.

it IS heartening to read that FB works for others. :-)

so, good lock and have fun.

I'm in that age 55 category... Not sure why you "won't touch that". Hmmm, it's a great way to stay in touch with our 30-something children and their busy lives since they live 1,000 - 2,000 miles away. Families are stretched from coast to coast these days and that's why we saggy, baggy old people have invaded Facebook. We're still young on the inside, Janie. Just saying.

Bare-eyed Sun - I totally agree - it is hard!

VodkaMom - I knew you'd like that!

Janie, later, when you get to forty-something, we'll expect a report from you on whether it truly is the new 18.

God, I love you, Jeff.;)

I like FB too. It's a nice way to keep up with friends and family. I do play Lil' Green Patch. Cause it saves acres of land! Gotta love google they started the green patch.

So, at 51, am I the new....???

My daughter set me up on FB this summer. I use it for all the same reasons as you and avoid all the same things. If I've got time to putz on the computer, I'd rather read blogs.

I really like facebook more than I thought I would.

I'm also glad to hear I'm not the only person above the age of 22 that enjoys it.

Janie, I think that it is "50 is the NEW 30" I am undecided about FB, although I enjoy seeing pictures of my great-nieces that live far, far away......

I don't have time for much of that game (i.e. crap) either. FB has gotten me back with many of my high school buds and we're having a blast from one end of the country to the other! Also discovered a cousin I didn't know existed - she looks exactly like my sisters and I and we're hoping to meet her. On the down side, my sisters ex-fiance wanted to be my friend - the ignore button is a wonderful feature and sometimes ya just gotta press it!!! just sayin.

Well I am really love this 3oish thing that I must be, if 40 is 18. I do facebook with the grandkids and my far away nieces and nephews..I love seeing their photos, especially those I have not seen in along time. Got new photos of a friends grandbaby up there like two hours after she was born..how awesome is that to share the joy! Thanks for your kind comments, I am much better. You are doing great with the 30 day thing!! :)

40 something is the new 18! WOOT WOOT! Good news for me, as I turn 40 this year. Lol. I joined FB as well. Good to keep in touch with relatives who live out of state and friends I don't often see. But I agree with you regarding the games and farming and all the other stuff.
