Got It Faded...Yeah, Right.

Recap, week one of Janie’s new job…

Monday, I spent all day on conference calls, and setting up my new computer – an act I repeated on Friday when my “real” computer came in…which has freakin’ Windows VISTA on it.

***silent scream of disgust and frustration***

In five short days, I’ve crossed all sorts of invisible boundaries, paved some new roads, and cut cross-country to some old ones – and all that's happened within the new company. And all I did was show up! I've decided this week I'm going to walk quietly and just be an observer...you know - watch, learn and listen. It’s been quite an adventure…but I’ll tell you, not once has my phone sounded off in the middle of the night! Phones ringing all night long happened often at my old job – when you’re working in an industry that never goes to sleep, stuff like that happens. Who knows, I might recover my life!

MLH and I were treated to supper one night, and I, yet another (MLH was out of town). We had lots of fun. Pretty heady stuff, that, being entertained. Usually it’s us treating customers…now, “we is one”! There will still be plenty of instances where we entertain clients, but still, it’s a refreshing change.

Tomorrow, I leave for Houston…and I’ll be gone a week. I’ll keep you posted, Houston always generates lots of blog fodder for me. It would probably help if I could figure out how to travel the crazy Beltway. (Karen - are we going to hook up?)

Happy trails!

Glad to hear that your week went well...sorry about Vista, but you'll get it!!! Have a great week in Houston. Love that you are not being awakened at all hours of the night, too. How about your new
e-mail address?

blech - Vista. How nice to sleep without work calls waking you up. Have fun in Houston - can't wait to read all about it.

It sounds like you're having so much fun! What an exciting time in your life :)

I know all about that phone ringing in the middle of the night or at the very least 5am in the morning. I dont' mind if if it's urgent, but when it's a stupid question like "what's the new database password?" that was sent out on a group e-mail if people would just read their e-mail, I get angry.

Windows Vista. Ewww! Boo, hiss!

It is exciting, scary, all that and more!

The calls I got in the middle of the night were like this:

"Um, Janie, the cement blend is too hot, we can't pump it. Want to add something else?"

...or, worse, the people ones...

"Janie, we're DOT'd out and we're going to be late on that big job. Just wanted to let you know. Can you call the company man and smooth it over for us?"

...and then there were the ones you never wanted to answer - the accident ones. They absolutely sucked. But they sucked for the employee's family, more. Thank God those didn't happen often - like twice in ten years.

I won't miss those calls. I haven't changed industries, though, so I might still get some of those.

You girls live a life that was unheard of in my young days. What a life! Our daughter will be a day behind you going to Houston. She doesn't leave until morning (Monday) One of these days, you'll run into each other and get acquainted.

Have a good week, Janie Girl. Forge news paths and re-trace some old...

p.s. If WE can travel the Beltway, so can you!!
