Houston has been…fun! I’ve been training with some of the guys and gals, who are off the walls smart, by the way. I’m excited about the excellence I see in this company, not to mention its potential.
And, I’ve encountered some new experiences. I’m kind of a “land rig” type oilpatch girl. I’ve met some consultants this week who do offshore platform type drilling and completion work, even some who “decommission” platforms. They talk a whole new ball game, and it’s very interesting. I’m being the supersponge, soaking it all up. Neat stuff, this other side of the oilpatch!
I’ve seen some really good friends, as well as some customers that are developing into friends, and that is always fun. My boss came in yesterday, and we discussed schedules, so I can plan the next couple of months. I’m excited about that, as well. New frontiers, new mountains to climb, it will be an adventure.
And today, I received an e-mail from my boss, right before lunch. I read it, and a couple other managers were copied, and I read it again.
In two weeks, he wants us to go to Orlando, Florida, to a meeting, which also equates to a big industry social event. And…they want us to take our spouses. Slap me ‘side the haid…be I dreaming???
Jumpin’ Jillies!! I think I can get used to this kind of stuff.
Hello, Southwest Airlines? I need to make some reservations….

I love the excitement in your post. It is so good to read that. Wow - a trip to Florida with spouses - that is fantastic!
All I can say is wahoo! Great that you are learning so many new things AND getting some cool benefits besides. Hope you two have a great time in Florida. Tell Mickey hi for me.
I made a (I suspect) similar job transition a few years ago. I went from calling on an industry to being a part of that industry. It is a fun transition.
Very close to yours truly - weather superb!!!
Exciting days ahead!! Love the enthusiasm I read through your words! Have a great time...
You are way to funny.
Thisisme - I've been the whole range of emotions, I promise. It's been a funky transition!
Pam - I will definitely tell Mickey hi for you, girlfriend.
Poet - you always know exactly where I am - it's fun to have a fellow salesperson/blogger. Thanks!
Sandy - we'll get to meet someday, I promise!
Inspired - thanks for your encouragement!
Cathy - I'm here to serve, girlfriend!! ;)
Good for you, Janie! I love seeing you reap some rewards in the biz. Not an easy one for women, that's for sure.
My husband has spent most of his career on offshore drilling rigs and being more land rig oriented is a new challenge for him, which he always likes!
Hey, Karen! You're right about the patch not being easy for women, but we're starting to make some strides! Hope your friend's doing well, and that you're feeling better yourself!
Hey girl --when are these dang oil industry bigwigs gonna figure out that we like to take siblings along sometimes?????????
You can go with me anytime, brother!!
I enjoy this blog. I will be back for more.
Very cool :)
Y'all have fun!
Your enthusiasm is catching.
I enjoy the blog. Have fun in Florida.
10-4 Willy
Happy to discover your blog! While you're headed to Florida, my family and I are headed for our first visit to Texas (Houston & Austin) for college visits in a few weeks. Since all travel is ultimately about food -- isn't it? -- where/what should we eat?
Hi Janie:
Woohoooo! Sounds like good times coming your way. Nuthin' like $98.00 per barrel, huh? What treat! Enjoy...
Cheers ~ Snooty (Liz)
Mike, thanks, senor! And sometime, I have a funny Chinese food DC story of my own to tell you!
Chatelaine, we will! How was your spa weekend? Or, I bet you're still there...
Willy - thanks! Come by anytime, I'll try to tone down the ummmm....smart aleckness...is that a word?
Betsy Bird - welcome, chica! Houston - Willie G's & Jimmy G's (awesome seafood). Austin - (or Houston, either one!) Trulucks. Stone Crab Claws. Absolutely to die for. And you have to do a Hut's Hamburger in Austin!
Y'all have fun! What field are your kiddos studying??
Snooty - thanks, girlfriend! I am excited, I've never been to Florida! I think this conference is always in a big place like that...next year (Oh, God, please, please, please let me go!!!) it's in ........Amsterdam! Wouldn't that be awesome???
Soooo.... do you need an assistant? LOL! I can pack in five minutes flat, I swear!
Florida will be a fun time. You go girl!
Snooty
Snooty - girl trips are fun! Anytime you wanna tag along, feel free, girlfriend!
